Job Description

The University of Wisconsin – Stout is seeking a Study Abroad Advisor to serve as an advisor and recruiter for study abroad/away programs. This position will manage a portfolio of international programs and implement daily processes. The advisor will leverage marketing trends to facilitate campus marketing efforts. The Study Abroad Advisor works closely with UW-Stout faculty in the planning, promotion, and execution of faculty-led programs. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Study or work abroad experience

Highly Desired

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience developing and executing faculty-led and student exchange programs.
  • Experience working with students, faculty, and others from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Ability to establish priorities, possess strong attention to detail, multitask, and ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in the planning and implementation of large-scale events, orientation programs, cross-cultural activities, and student support services with the campus and community.
  • Experience with marketing trends, graphic design, and social media.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Terra Dotta (or other study abroad software).

RESPONSIBILITIES

60% Study Abroad/Away Student Advising & Faculty-led Program Development  

  • Advises prospective students on the academic, financial, and cultural aspects of direct, exchange, faculty-led programs.
  • Advises students on post-acceptance processes and manages follow-up (track host school acceptance, etc.).
  • Develops materials and implements pre-departure orientation for outbound participants.
  • Assists with the maintenance of information in the online application database, Terra Dotta.
  • Provides resources to students on visa requirements, if applicable.
  • Facilitates post-program activities (alumni events, program evaluations and assessments, etc.).
  • Conducts re-entry community activities and facilitates Global Ambassador program.
  • Assists faculty in the development, promotion, and execution of new/repeat faculty-led programs.
  • Maintains regular communications with deans, department chairs, and program directors regarding programs offered through their units.
  • Conducts outreach and training session to faculty & staff on campus and develops   faculty orientation materials.

30% Marketing & Recruitment

  • Assists with marketing plan for student participant recruitment.
  • Recruits and promotes on and off campus for outbound programs offered through the office (i.e., classroom presentations, attendance at study abroad fairs).
  • Organizes campus events (Study Abroad Fair, informational sessions, informational booths).
  • Creates and maintains printed and digital promotional materials.

10% Miscellaneous Efforts 

  • Coordinates visits for representatives from partner institutions coming to UW-Stout.
  • Assists with special projects and strategic planning, such as fundraising initiatives.
  • Assists with official reporting of data as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Minimum starting salary of $35,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan, demonstrating our commitment to the diverse needs of our employees.
