New Mexico State University (NMSU) invites confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School/Associate Provost for International Affairs. The Dean/Associate Provost reports directly to the Provost and is responsible for the development, administration, and promotion of the Graduate School and international programs to ensure high quality learning experiences. It will be critical to engage all members of the University community to build and sustain a welcoming and inclusive culture at the New Mexico State University. As a Land- and Space-Grant and Hispanic and Minority-serving University, NMSU is committed to the creation and dissemination of knowledge that serves the interests of the US, New Mexico in particular, and of all students at the institution. NMSU offers a wide range of graduate programs, both face-to-face, hybrid, and online, which position graduate students for jobs in Agriculture, Creative Arts, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Health, Engineering, and STEM fields.
Duties of the Dean/Associate Provost include:
• Serve as leader, administrator, and evaluator of graduate programs.
• Promote academic achievement and graduate student satisfaction consistent with established education objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel and oversee development and/or administration of budgets in all areas of supervision.
• Seek and pursue/motivate others to pursue potential sources of funding for the Graduate School.
• Provide leadership for the Graduate School in fund-raising to support its goals.
• Work collaboratively with the Provost, the Academic Deans of the other Colleges, NMSU-Global, and with the NMSU Graduate Council as an advisory body of faculty.
• Serve as liaison between the Graduate School and the university community, community agencies, businesses and other groups, advisory committees, state and national groups.
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations. Seek/maintain degree program approval from licensing agencies, regional and national accreditation councils.
• Oversee and provide visionary, strategic leadership for the University’s comprehensive engagement strategy, both short- and long-term.
• Collaborate with the Office of EID, and engage all members of the graduate school community – including, but not limited to, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, in EID initiatives.
• Collaborate with NMSU-Global and other units on campus in all efforts related to developing and implementing international agreements and MoUs.
• Participate in and provide guidance regarding the university’s initiatives related to recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
• Oversee international student services and education abroad in developing programming around international initiatives.
• Lead and support opportunities that enhance equitable global learning, cultural humility, and multicultural competency through academic programs, co-curricular opportunities, participation in education abroad, oncampus experience for international students, and other initiatives that prepare NMSU students for success in today’s world.
• Support education abroad and international student services to assure compliance with all federal laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
• Must have a terminal degree or its equivalent with a preference for an individual who has a demonstrated record of scholarship;
• Must be a tenured Professor, or Associate Professor eligible for promotion to Professor rank at NMSU;
• Must have a demonstrated record of working with graduate education and students; and
• Must have a demonstrated record of working with international students and programs/procedures related to their success
