About Me

Yu Teng has 14 years of civil engineering working experience as a consultant, contractor and client’s representative for various tunnelling projects. He has specific experience with open shield, earth pressure balanced (EPB) and slurry tunnelling boring machines (TBM) for tunnel construction in various weather rock and soft sandy and clayey ground condition. He has comprehensive understanding of different TBMs performance in different ground conditions.
In addition to mechanised tunnelling, Yu Teng has developed experience with mined tunnelling works while working as the Designer Representative in the Airportlink Project in Brisbane. His exposure covered all aspect of mined tunnel works such as sequential excavation, temporary support, instrumentation and monitoring, permanent lining, backend works, pavement construction to cross passage excavation and permanent lining including MEFT fit-out works, smoke duct construction and electrical and mechanical fit-out, conducting daily surveillance work and providing technical solutions to the contractor
Yu Teng is also experienced in design specialised in geotechnical modelling, shaft design, slope stability analysis as well as tailings and earth-filled dams design.
While working as a designer, he has produced various technical specification including land and marine geotechnical investigation, pipe jacking, HDD, shotcreting and concreting.
Yu Teng is a competent engineer with excellent communication, organisation and co-ordination skills, who has a proven track record of preparing and executing project plans and programmes, ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with the specification, in a safe and cost effective way and at the same time to client’s satisfaction.

    Airport Link Project Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade, (2009-2012), Brisbane, QLD, Australia, Thiess-John Holland Joint venture (project value: $4.6bn). Senior tunnel engineer within the Construction Phase Services team. • Assessed the actual ground conditions based on mapping, probing and behaviours information provided by site geologists and determined the required initial support within the range of expected ground conditions covered in the Design Documentation. Reviewed daily tunnel monitoring results.     Circle Line Stage 4 & 5 Contract 855 • Seconded to LTA for Circle Line Stage 4 & 5 Contract 855 project, which comprise of 10 underground tunnels with a total length of 10 kilometers and 4 cross passage. Project sum: SGD 399 million. • Supervision of tunneling works for 2 slurry machines and 2 EPB machine. • To review method statement submitted by main contractor and ensures that all works are done according to specification. • Review pre-tunneling document and involve with planning of main drive of tunneling works. • Reviewing of method statements for excavation of 110m2 (face area) and 17m (length) TBM launching chamber using New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), and related works. • Reviewing of method statements for excavation 70m (length) Twin mined tunnel using New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) under Ayer Rajah Avenue. • Supervision of daily NATM tunnel works to ensure that works are carried out according to method statement and tunnel safety plan. • Instigates or advises protective/ preventive measures when necessary through daily reviewing of instrumentation data and TBM operation parameters for monitoring purpose. • Carry out construction risk assessment for all related tunneling works. • Coordination of temporary works design between Contractors and LTA temporary works designers.

    The Kaohsiung Metropolitan Mass Rapid Transit System, CR2 Project • Work with a team in the design department for CR2 project, which comprise of 8 underground tunnels and 8 cross-passages. Project sum: NTD 727,320,000 • To plan, prepare and submit all method statement for tunnel construction. • To liaise between Detail Design Company and client for submission of detail design calculation. • Prepare and submit shop drawings for tunnel excavation. • In charge of daily operation of LUR12 up and down track tunnels. • Liaise with client’s consultant to ensure that works are carried out in accordance with specification. • Assist the QC department in preparation of progress claim document. • In charge of cross passages LUR12 CP1 and LUR12 CP2, among which LUR12 CP2 has a sump pit and the final excavation depth is 36.7m below ground level. • In charge of LUR12 uptrack and downtrack remaining works till handing over to track work contractor. • In charge of construction of station tunnel connection ‘omega join’ and construction of bridge slab at station connection

Project sum SGD 66,472,673. • Liaised with various sub-con and resident engineer to ensure that daily operations are carried out smoothly. • Supervised construction on site so as to ensure that slab cycle time is met. • Checked pile eccentricity and proposed tie beams during piling stage. • Checked architectural and structural drawings to avoid discrepancies. • Produced unit plans and various architectural shop drawings. • Carried out various submission of approved structural and architectural material.
